UNITED WAY OF ROCKLAND COUNTY TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE LAUNCHING THE TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IN ROCKLAND

West Nyack, New York – United Way of Rockland County will hold a brief press conference at the United Way of Rockland County's offices in Nyack on Monday, January 30 at 11:30 AM. The press conference will publicly launch the Tax Assistance Program in Rockland. The press conference will take place at the United Way of Rockland's conference room on the second floor of the M&T Building in Nyack at 135 Main Street.

United Way of Rockland County is serving as the administrator for Rockland's new Tax Assistance Program (TAP) with the mission of providing free tax assistance for anyone who qualifies for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and is a resident of Rockland County. The IRS estimates that there are millions of federal income credit dollars that remain unclaimed by Rockland families and individuals every year. Rockland residents with one or more dependents who had a household income of less than $35,000 in 2005 or individuals who earned less than $12,000 in 2005 could be eligible for the refund.

The program is being made possible by a number of Rockland organizations including Temple Beth Torah (the volunteer coordinator), Chase and IBM (the sponsors of the program), Hudson Valley 211 and the IRS. In addition, Head Start of Rockland, Konbit Neg Lakay, New Beginnings, the Nyack Center, Rockland Community College and the United Way of Rockland County are the site partners.

The members of the media are requested to call Jay Bursky at 845-353-1616 to confirm their attendance.
