UNITED WAY OF ROCKLAND COUNTY ELECTS NEW OFFICERS, DIRECTORS FOR 2005
Nyack, New York -- April 1, 2005 -- United Way of Rockland County elected its new officers and directors for the year beginning March 2005 during its annual meeting which took place March 24 at the Nyack Grande.
Heading the Board of Directors as Chairman is Dr. S. Ram Nagubandi, Commissioner of Rockland County’s Commission on Human Rights. Dr. Nagubandi also serves as Chairman of Asian Americans of Rockland. Dr. Nagubandi has served on several boards during the past 20 years and currently serves on the boards of Good Samaritan Hospital, Leadership Rockland and United Way of New York State.
“In these days of a global economy and global thinking, people often tend to ignore the local community. United Way of Rockland’s main focus is to help the local community,” said Nagubandi. “United Way makes an unambiguous community impact in Rockland.”
Dr. Nagubandi succeeds Thomas L. Brizzolara, Manger-Public Affairs of Orange and Rockland Utilities who served as Chairman of the Board during the past two years. In addition to Dr. Nagubandi, the Executive Board is comprised of: Howard Hellman, President of All Bright Electric, elected First Vice Chair; Marjorie E. Lang, Vice President and Regional Manager of M&T Bank, named Second Vice Chair; Dennis Fleming, Executive Director of Rockland County Youth Bureau elected secretary; and Fraj Lazreg, President of Money Concepts of New York Corporation re-elected as treasurer.
The Board of Directors of United Way of Rockland has elected eleven additional business and civic leaders to terms on the board. These individuals include:
• Lynne Allan, Senior Vice President Marketing of Union State Bank, Orangeburg, New York,
• Christopher L. Chin, Esq. of Brauner, Baron, Rosenzweig, & Klein, LLP of New York, New York,
• Peter Duda, Senior Director, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals of Pearl River, New York,
• William J. Lamadore, Senior Vice President, Provident Bank, Montebello, New York,
• Leslie Maier, Assistant to Vice President/General Manager of the New York Division of United Water,
• Mark McNeil, Superintendent, Nanuet School District, Nanuet, New York,
• Donna Riley, Vice President, HR - Corporate, IBM Learning Center, Piermont, New York,
• Robin Rosenberg, President of the Garnerville Arts and Industrial Center, Garnerville, New York,
• Susan Swensen, The Bank of New York, Nyack, New York,
• Heather Carty Ward, Executive Director and General Counsel, CEJJES Institute, Pomona, New York, and
• Mark Welshoff, President and CEO of Palisades Federal Credit Union, Pearl River, New York
Finally, the Board of Directors elected Hon. Thom Kleiner, Supervisor, Town of Orangeburg to the Advisory Board of United Way of Rockland.

United Way of Rockland County, Inc. provides programs that touch more than 100,000 Rockland residents every year. In 2004, the United Way of Rockland County raised $885,000 to assist in funding 28 programs with 23 non-profit human service agencies. The only mission of these agencies is to make the community a better place to live by assisting seniors, caring for children and youth, strengthening families, assisting people in crisis, increasing self-sufficiency for people with disabilities, and promoting health and healing. This was accomplished through the United Way fundraising efforts --- a campaign spearheaded by the county’s top corporate, retail and agency donors and their employees.
