 (Volunteer Organizations Aiding in Disasters)

Potential jobs for Rockland County VOAD/disaster task force volunteers

 

►      Assist with intake at the Rockland Assistance Center

►      Work at a temporary shelter for Rockland residents

►      Provide door to door information in your neighborhood

►      Work at 211 and/or InfoRock answering disaster relief information calls

►      Help coordinate gifts in kind donations from the public with non-profit agencies’ staff

►      Sort donations of gifts in kind (food, clothing, etc.)

►      Work with local companies & non-profits to disseminate gifts in kind

►      Transport meals to residents who are relocated

►      Answer phones at the Fire Training Center or the Rockland Assistance Center

►      Provide administrative or other support to long term rescue/recovery teams

►   Follow up with disaster victims to find out additional needs

►      Orient “visiting volunteers” from other areas who come to help

►      Provide transportation to and from shelters

►      Assist child care/after school facilities that may have been relocated

►      Serve meals to volunteer teams/recovery teams

►      Assist governmental officials with damage inventory

►      Work with “Mental Health” teams

►      Coordinate clergy groups to mobilize more volunteers, disseminate information, etc.

►      Assist with mass inoculation coordination

►      Assist residents with FEMA or other disaster aid applications

►      Work at Red Cross, Salvation Army or United Way offices answering phones/e-mails

►   Help with basic repairs

►      Remove small debris

►      Assist public health officials to collect samples (usually water samples)

►      Work from home (ideally with independent source of electricity)

►Organize & facilitate phone trees

►Call “shut-ins” to assess their ability to remain at home

►Assist with data collection

►Provide United Ways 211/Info Rock with up to the minute research

►Accept gifts in kind
